In May, 2024 a tanker truck fire damaged an overpass on I-95, in one of the busiest traffic corridors in the Northeast, resulting in a record-setting demolition and rebuilding project that was notable for its speed and efficiency. Awarded the 2025 American Transportation Award by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, this major transportation infrastructure project utilized a 30% Pozzotive replacement concrete mix, ensuring an exceptionally long-lasting structure with greater resistance to road salts, sulfates and freeze/thaw cycles than conventional concrete. Over 70 tons of Pozzotive were used, saving 66 tons of CO2 and diverting 280,414 bottles from regional landfills.

The city of Torrington consolidated their middle school, high school, and central administration offices into one dynamic facility on the existing 31-acre high school campus. This 310,000sf building was designed by SLAM Collaborative Architects and constructed by O&G Industries, and includes a premier auditorium and performance stage, two separate student-dining commons, two gymnasia, and support spaces for athletes. Sustainability objectives were achieved with Pozzotive concrete mixes used throughout the project.

This two-tower residential complex along the East River in Greenpoint, Brooklyn is the largest geo-thermal project in New York City, designed by Marvel Designs and developed and built by Lendlease. A mix of retail and residential, the project includes 834 rental units across two structures, 20- and 37-stories. Pozzotive replaced 40% of the cement in the entire foundation, an integral part of the developer’s sustainability plan to achieve LEED Gold Certification, WEDG Waterfront Certification, Fitwel Certification, and Energy Star Certification.

Designed by urban design firm Studio Gang, this architecturally distinctive conference center will serve as an innovation hub on Harvard University’s new Enterprise Research Campus. The Center achieves ambitious sustainability goals set by Harvard’s Healthier Building Standards and the University’s Sustainability Plan, including the use of Pozzotive in its low-carbon concrete throughout the structure.

The New Canaan Library was designed with an array of forward thinking, sustainable features that have made it a net zero-ready building, with solar panels delivering 45% of electric needs, a living, green roof and concrete made with 30% Pozzotive. This diverted tons of waste glass from local landfills, saved nearly 30% of the project’s carbon emissions from cement and ensured that this innovative building will be around for generations to come

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)’s new Western District Headquarters is the first net-zero and LEED Platinum building built by the state.

Designed by TLB Architects,40% of the cement in the structural concrete mix was replaced with Pozzotive which was manufactured with 100% post-consumer glass sourced within a 50-mile radius and manufactured in Connecticut, just 16 miles from the site in Watertown.

JP Morgan Chase’s new Global Headquarters at 270 Park Avenue is an engineering marvel and prime example of how industry leaders are embracing sustainability and innovation. As specified by Severud Associates, the 2.2 million sf project incorporated a 40% replacement of its cement with Pozzotive GGP in all of its building floor slabs. Using NY Metro Area recycled glass as feedstock, Pozzotive is also being incorporated into all of the project’s concrete block for a total project savings of 4,750 metric tons of CO2e, so far the greatest savings for a single building project.

The approach to the iconic UN Plaza was completely resurfaced with high performance permeable pavers made with Pozzotive pozzolan by Unilock, North America’s premier manufacturer of concrete interlocking pavers. Illustrating an optimal circular economy, the pavers were made from the 60 tons of window glass that were harvested by Skanska Construction from the UN General Assembly Building. The glass was processed regionally into Pozzotive by Urban Mining Northeast, sent to Unilock’s regional manufacturing facility and then back to the UN as new pavers, giving the project’s window glass a second life at its place of origin.

In the first ever high-rise pour nationally, the Durst Organization specified high performance, self-consolidating structural concrete batched with Pozzotive for Hallett’s Point, a waterfront residential property in Astoria, Queens. Several concrete mix designs were evaluated, an example of which was 8,000 PSI design strength made with 35% Pozzotive that after 56 days exceeded traditional concrete PSI strength by +50%.

Concrete block made with 30% Pozzotive was used in the construction of every station on the 2nd Avenue Subway line, New York City’s newest, most modern subway line. Pozzotive was specified for this landmark project by AECOM, the largest engineering firm in the world.

Concrete batched with Pozzotive creates stronger, longer lasting and chloride resistant surfaces, which is why the New York City DOT specified Pozzotive for this New York City demonstration sidewalk pour. CCNY School of Civil Engineering compared various design mixes against standard NYC DDC-approved concrete with fly ash, with Pozzotive concrete products outperforming traditional concrete across all key measures.

This ultra-modern, innovative residential complex was built by the Durst Corporation using structural concrete block made with Pozzotive, consistent with the sustainability vision for this project. The lobby features cast-in-place concrete flooring and pre-cast concrete stairs made with Pozzotive®, and fabricated with a honed finish by Get Real Surfaces, a cement design studio in New York City.

Developed by The Related Companies and Oxford properties Group, Hudson yards is the largest private real estate development in the United States and upon completion will include over 16 major structures. Pozzotive CMU is already in use in four of the early towers developed on the site

Permeable pavers made with Pozzotive by Unilock Pavers were installed to create a parking area for the new Whole Foods Market in Brooklyn, NY. Architectural CMUs made with Pozzotive were used in the building structure and both the pavers and CMUs were manufactured with Pozzotive pozzolan that was made using excess window glass recovered from the nearby UN General Assembly Building.

Jonathan F. P. Rose, one of the county’s most prominent developers of affordable, environmentally responsible communities, designed these residential housing units adjacent to the Stamford Transportation Center in Stamford, CT. Both structural and architectural CMUs were made with Pozzotive.

A mix of steel frame, structural CMU block, and pre-stressed hollow-core concrete plank manufactured by Urban Precast, all made with Pozzotive, were used in the construction of City Point, a mixed-use, multi-building complex in Brooklyn. Designed by COOKFOX Architects, a leader in sustainable, environmentally sensitive architecture, City Point is one of the largest mixed-use developments in New York City.

Grimshaw and Dattner architects collaborated on this mixed-use, mixed-income residential project that won the New Housing New York Legacy Competition for affordable housing and sustainable design. Created as a template for future sustainable housing, the entire building superstructure was made using Pozzotive high strength concrete block.

HLW International specified architectural concrete block & structural concrete block made with Pozzotive for this world-class television production facility that integrates sustainable design, energy efficient objectives and cutting-edge technical sophistication. Home to SportsCenter and ESPN’s NFL studio programming, the inclusion of sustainable building elements such as Pozzotive earned this 194,000sf building a USGBC LEED NC 2.2 target of “Certified.”

The Kathleen Grimm School for Leadership and Sustainability at Sandy Ground, also known as P.S. 62, is the first net-zero-energy school in New York City and one of the first of its kind worldwide. Using Pozzotive in the UniLock Permeable Pavers in the school’s sidewalks and hardsurface areas, SOM Architects designed this “sustainability lab” to harvest as much energy from renewable on-site sources as it uses on an annual basis, hence earning its designation as a net-zero project.

The Hegeman Residence, a LEED-certified residential development in Brownsville, Brooklyn, was designed by COOKFOX and features a range of green architectural and building innovations. High-strength concrete block made with Pozzotive was used for the building super structure and white ground-face concrete brick, also made with Pozzotive, was used throughout the lobby. All block and brick products were manufactured by Westbrook Concrete Block. Unilock Eco Priora Permeable Pavers made with Pozzotive were used in the exterior walkways.

Pozzotive CMUs were specified by STV Architects for the construction of this 720,000-square-foot, LEED-certified project, the most advanced, self-contained police training academy in the world.

Developed by The Durst Organization and designed by COOKFOX Architects, this 47 story, glass clad mixed-use tower contains concrete block manufactured with Pozzotive throughout the building.

Hazen & Sawyer Environmental Engineers specified structural and architectural concrete block and concrete brick made with Pozzotive for UCONN’s reclaimed water facility. Utilizing innovative water recovery and re-use systems, this plant is tangible proof of UCONN’S commitment to implementing sustainable solutions on campus as well as providing a real-world educational facility to teach students and faculty about environmental sustainability.

The historic Navy Brig site was developed into a 450,000-square-foot residential and retail project recognized as an environmentally sustainable design that earned a LEED Silver certification and was awarded the AIA 2018 Housing Award. Covering nearly an entire city block, Navy Green’s neighborhood-within-a-neighborhood complex is composed of four multi-family residential buildings enrolled in various affordable and supportive housing programs, two rows of market-rate townhouses, a community facility and retail space, and a central common green space. Pozzotive was used in both the structural CMU’s and in the exterior white ground-face brick.

Pozzotive Ground Face Brick in Manhattan Midnight was specified for the exterior finish of this Gene Kaufman-designed Hilton property which, at 401 rooms, is the largest Hilton Garden Inn in North America.

Marine Gateway is a mixed-use, transit-oriented development designed by Perkins & Will Architects and features Pozzotive Ground Face Brick on its distinctive and modern exterior. A LEED^TM Gold certified project, and winner of the Urban Land Institute’s 2017-18 Global Excellence Award, Marine Gateway is recognized for its green innovations in both its construction materials and building systems.
